Farewell Dinner for Netherlands Envoy
POIC Sabah Sdn Bhd hosted a farewell dinner for the out-going Netherlands' Ambassador to Malaysia, Mr. Lody Embrechts, in Kota Kinabalu recently.
Mr. Embrechts was instrumental in bringing together POIC Sabah Sdn Bhd and the Port of Rotterdam Authority of the Netherlands to discuss the possibility of developing Lahad Datu, in Sabah, into an international maritime hub.
POIC Sabah is developing the Lahad Datu palm oil industrial cluster (POIC Lahad Datu) to encourage the growth of palm oil downstream processing industries. Among the winning features of POIC Lahad DAtu are the natural deep harbour (about 20 meters draft) and its proximity to huge supplies of palm oil.
Port of Rotterdam is keen to develop a presence in the region to secure the shipping of palm oil, which is a strategic commodity to European countries most of which are served by the Port.
Dr. Pang Teck Wai, CEO of POIC Sabah, thanked the Ambassador for his role in bringing POR to Sabah, and Sabah to the investors community at Rotterdam.
