Japanese trading giant on fact-finding mission

Itochu Corporation of Japan, one of the biggest global trading companies, has been attracted to the biodiesel supply potential at POIC Lahad Datu.

The company's Plants & Projects Manager based in Kuala Lumpur Mr Yuji Suzuki and Mr Kenju Chimura, a director of Itochu's Tokyo-based subsidiary Alpha Consult, Inc. visited Sabah on Sept 8, 2006 on a mission to acquire information on the supply and demand of palm oil and biodiesel.

The duo attended a briefing at POIC Sabah Sdn Bhd's headquarters in Kota Kinabalu before visiting Lahad Datu to look at the POIC Lahad Datu site as well as a palm oil mill.

Itochu Corporation is a Fortune 500 company with 18 offices in its native Japan and 135 offices in 80 countries. It it's a globally integrated company with businesses ranging from textile to machinery, to aerospace to energy, chemicals, food, etc.

POIC Sabah Sdn Bhd's CEO Dr Pang Teck Wai views positively the interest shown by Itochu, which he considers a company of global Itochu. "It shows that we have attracted fairly wide attention, and the business potentials in POIC Lahad Datu are significant."
