Land Size : Second largest state covering 73,997 sq km
Location : In the heart of BIMP-EAGA, a region of 55 million population which offers abundant resources for trade and shipping.
Forest cover : 48% or 3.5 million hectares
Climate : Tropical, average temperatures 24-34 degree and an annual rainfall of 1800-3000mm. The geographical condition and locations of Sabah, Lahad Datu specially, makes it best for palm oil plantation.

Economy : Primary commodities are palm oil, rubber, cocoa and timber. The State Government has now embarked on a program to diversify the economy through the creation of value-added industries in palm oil industry.

There are about 126 mills (2009) in Sabah produce close to 5 million tonnes of palm oil and palm oil kernel, mostly which is exported. The large volume of oil and biomass means tremendous potential for investment through value-adding and the development of new products, support industries such as logistics, transport, marketing and business support services. Currently, almost four million hectares of land in Malaysia are under oil palm cultivation. Today, Malaysia is the second largest producer of crude palm oil (12 million tonnes [MT] in year 2008; 41% of world output and Sabah is one of the largest producing state (about 35%) under oil palm within the country.
